Autumn 2025 – a time for reflection and preparation
11/09/2025
The return of the rain has brought a welcome change on the farm. The pastures are greening up beautifully, and the cows are once again enjoying the sight — and taste — of delicious, nutrient rich grass. This year is a reminder of how quickly the seasons can turn, and of the resilience of both land and livestock.
As the days gradually shorten, this year has seen a sudden plummet from the barmy heat of late summer into autumn where the air has taken on a cool crispness and the rain has, at last, arrived! Following a spring where we saw a bounty of lush grass and green fields, the summer then gave way to a long dry spell parching the ground, you will have noticed how brown the farm became. Like so many farms across the county, we had to dip into winter feed stocks earlier than usual to keep the cattle content through those leaner, incredibly dry weeks.

These early autumn months are some of the busiest on the estate particularly with our farming team who are hard at work preparing the land and livestock for the colder months ahead. Autumn also marks an important time for wildlife: we have been noticing many more hares than usual, and the occasional deer can be spotted moving through the woods.
Walking along the public rights of way around the estate, you will notice the hedgerows are heavy with berries, and you might see flocks of migrating birds pausing here on their way south — we ask you to tread carefully, respect livestock, and please keep dogs on leads.
Looking Ahead – Clive
Many of you will have heard about the planning application the estate has submitted for Station Road in Clive. We know new proposals will raise questions, but we see this as an exciting opportunity to make a positive contribution to the village. Our vision is to create something that not only respects the character of Clive but also supports the future vitality of the community. By working carefully with planners and listening to local feedback, we hope to deliver a scheme that brings long-term benefits, from supporting local services to creating spaces that families and future generations can enjoy.
From all of us at Sansaw Estate, we wish you an enjoyable move into the autumn months ahead.
