A Welcome Change To The Weather
08/09/2026
After a challenging summer for many, the recent rainfall has been a welcome relief across the estate. Following prolonged dry conditions, grass growth has responded quickly, bringing much-needed colour back to the fields and helping ease the pressure on forage supplies. While the drought highlighted the vulnerability of farming systems to unpredictable weather patterns, it has also demonstrated the resilience and adaptability of our farming teams.

FEEDING THE HEARD ………
The dry weather significantly reduced grass growth across much of the grazing platform, and careful feed management became essential. Silage stocks were opened earlier than planned, with supplementary feeding required to maintain milk production and cow condition through the summer months.
As grass growth recovers, cows are gradually returning to a more grass-based diet. However, replenishing forage reserves for the coming winter remains a key priority. The recent rain has improved prospects for autumn grazing and for late-season silage production, helping to rebuild stocks ahead of the winter housing period.
Despite these challenges, the dairy team has maintained herd health and performance exceptionally well over the past few difficult months.

THERE WAS ONE TEAM WHO RELISHED THE PROLONGED SUMMER …..
The estate maintenance team and our external contractors have made the most of the warm conditions. We have seen significant progress being made on important infrastructure and maintenance works around the estate which would usually be hindered by unreliable summer conditions!
PROPERTY
Work is now underway to furnish Black Birches Cottage as a holiday let. The property offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the countryside and explore the wider North Shropshire area from a comfortable and well-appointed rural base.
We look forward to welcoming our first guests in the coming months and sharing further updates as the project is ready to launch.
Office Space Available
We currently have a small number of office units available at Black Birches, providing flexible accommodation for SME businesses seeking a semi- rural working environment with excellent connectivity.
In addition, Hardwicke Farmhouse is available to let. The property offers spacious accommodation in an attractive rural setting and would appeal to families or professionals looking to enjoy estate living in a spacious rural environment.
To enquire on availability please contact the estate office for further details.

As we move into autumn, our focus turns to making the most of improved growing conditions, preparing for winter, and continuing to develop the diverse range of enterprises across the estate. We would like to thank all our tenants, staff, contractors and neighbours for their continued support throughout the year and wish everyone a successful harvest and autumn season.
