Fun facts about David
- David is a huge Newcastle United fan and once met two players in a service station after a game. He called their names and when they turned around he was so starstruck he couldn’t speak – his dad had to ask them if he could have a selfie!
- David’s nickname is 62 after his beloved Newcastle United lost to Manchester United, who his best mate supports, with a final score of 6 – 2. His friend started to call him 62 and eventually it stuck.
- David’s favourite animal is – of course a cow!
If David’s 10-year-old self could see him now starting his day at 4:30am and spending it surrounded by cattle, he’d be shocked because he always thought he’d go into sports – but 30-year-old David’s doesn’t regret a thing.
“I’ve always loved animals, and when I was younger I used to help out on my friends farm in the school holidays but at the time it was nothing more than a hobby – I never thought it could be a career,” he said.
“I absolutely love my job now and feel really lucky that I get to spend all day outdoors on my feet with the animals.”
David’s an assistant herdsperson and does a whole variety of tasks to assist the team – he says no two days are the same.
He’s been at Sansaw just over six months and moved to the Estate with his wife, Michaela, and three-year-old daughter, Darcey, at the start of the year.
“I’d only been here a couple of months when the Coronavirus pandemic started and we went into lockdown but because we’re classed as key workers and needed to look after the animals, we had to keep going.
“It’s been busy and hard but rewarding all at the same time.
“It’s been great for my wife and daughter though. The house we’ve got here on the Estate is beautiful with a huge garden overlooking the animals. If you’re going to be locked down, the countryside is definitely the place to live!
“Darcey loves the animals and she sits on the underpasses and watches the cows go underneath and then spots them from the window when she’s having her dinner – maybe she’s a future Sansaw employee in the making!”
