Summer 2022

It’s really important to us to continually improve our skills within the team so we can deliver the very best results

It’s been a challenging summer here at Sansaw with extremely dry weather meaning we have had to feed the cows from June onwards.

We have also lost 50 cows to TB following a recent blood test. It is always sad to see excellent and what appear to be healthy cows leaving the farm.

That said we have been very fortunate to have enjoyed a good milk price which has helped cover ever escalating input costs.

We’ve seen fantastic fertility results over the summer thanks to the team’s hard work in planning and executing procedures. The six week in the calf rate was 75 per cent and the empty rate after 10 weeks was 12 per cent – an excellent result!

On top of all that we’ve had a real focus on training over the summer. From cow fertility to spraying and udder health to lameness, we’ve spent more than 200 hours training our staff. It’s really important to us to continually improve our skills within the team so we can create the very best results and always be ahead of the game.
