Renters’ Right Act 2025

At Sansaw, we have been preparing for these changes over the past 18 months and welcome the reforms introduced under the Renters’ Rights Act.

What Happens To My Tenancy in 2026?

May 1st 2026 saw the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 give tenants new rights & the introduction of new rules for private landlords.

The New Rules Apply To Your Tenancy Automatically.

These changes affect you if you are a tenant in the private rented sector with an assured or assured shorthold tenancy. This will apply to the majority of properties at Sansaw.

Key Points

~ Your tenancy with us will be open-ended (rolling) giving you the freedom to move.

~ You can now give us 2 months’ notice to end your tenancy, on your term date.

~ You are protected for the first 12 months (should we need to sell or move into the property).

~ As your landlord, we must give a valid legal reason (breach of contract for example rent arrears/ anti-social behaviour) if we want you to leave.

~ We can only be review your rent once a year and you will be given at least 2 months’ notice of the change.

~ As your landlord, we won’t need to change/re-issue your existing written tenancy agreement. You will be provided with a written statement with everything you need to know.
